SPECIAL BAROGRAPH INK
A premium quality ink formulated for colour density, even and predictable flow with slow drying time. Each bottle contains 10 ml of ink with a convenient fine bore metal dispenser tube. Available in Dark Blue, Purple, Red, and Green.
Notes on Ink:
We have decided to supply our ink in bottles with needle dispensers, which we think this is a first for recording ink. This needle delivery allows for a very precise amount of ink delivered exactly into the nib reservoir, and neatly solves the problem of over-inking or spilling ink onto the instrument.
Barograph ink is quite different to the types of ink used in fountain pens. In essence, fountain pen ink dries fast, barograph ink does not. In addition, fountain pen ink has a much higher propensity to flow into and across the paper, a function of both paper and ink.
To afford good flow from the nib onto the paper chart, barograph ink must be slow drying, and it is further enhanced with increased viscosity to aid consistent transmission from nib to paper. If you are plagued with blotting, or inconsistent marking, this will be caused by poor paper or ink, or possibly both, assuming that the nib is correctly set up.

RECORDING CHART PAPERS
Barograph and Thermograph Papers
We hold a quantity of both modern and vintage barograph papers in many different formats. Many of the vintage papers are marked Negretti & Zambra or Short & Mason, ideal for collectors. Should you require papers, please state the type of barograph with drum height and diameter. More precise details should include print colour, Sunday or Monday start, imperial or metric (ie inches of mercury, millibars or millimetres).
Notes on Papers:
For the almost infinite types of recording instruments, there are a similarly seemingly infinite number of papers. Getting the right paper for your recording instrument is important since correctly recorded results will be contingent on getting this constituent right. If you are in doubt about the right paper, or unable to source your requirement, please contact us for advice.

RECORDING ARMS & NIBS
Recording Arms
Manufactured in-house, we are able to supply a range of arms to suit even the most specialised of instruments. Specialists in all aspects of the restoration of barographs and thermographs, including timber display cases, it is advisable that we fit the recording arm. However, we can work from dimensions or from a pattern supplied by you. In many instances, we will know the dimensions of the arm by identifying the type of instrument.
Great attention to detail is required in the replacement of recording arms, including length, any offset – common in barothermographs, and type and thickness of material. The external finish also varies from a high finish to a matt or grained finish.
Notes on Recording Arms:
The very delicate arms are often badly bent or too short, and so must be replaced. Corrosion at the nib end often leads to the end of the arm being broken away, which will mean that the nib no longer describes the arc printed on the recording paper. A bent or badly distorted arm may also stick or jam if it comes into contact with static parts of the mechanism.
Nibs
We can supply a range of fine quality modern nibs to suit most instruments. Good vintage nibs may also be available from time to time.
Notes on Nibs:
Arguably the most critical part of the recording mechanism, original nibs are often manufactured from soft material which, though it may easily bed in, also implies faster wear. This leads to a wide trace line and increased consumption of ink, which, in turn as a function of reduced capacity and greater consumption, can lead to the nib running dry. It is very important that not only is the nib moderately fine but that the tip is correctly profiled to meet the paper.
