Pocket Barometer by Negretti & Zambra c1904 Performance Chart

A fine lacquered brass early C20th aneroid pocket barometer by Negretti & Zambra c1904

Pocket barometer having silvered and die struck 1¾” dial, the bezel rotated altitude scale with a range from 0 – 8,000ft and divided to 100ft, the barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 23” – 31” and divided to 1/20th”. The upper part with standard meteorological terms and marked “Compensated.” Blued steel pointer under bevelled glass.

Standard movement, unsigned but by Negretti & Zambra and dated “5/04,” driven from a 1” capsule and tensioned on a C spring. All contained within a stylised convex pattern case with engine turned finishes, hand annotated to the side with stock no. “1928N” and initialled “cf.” Extension post and suspension ring, calibration port to verso.

Together with its original two tone leather over timber, red velvet and silk lined travel case, snap closure on a button release.

Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions. The movement working exceptionally well across the full range with an error of less than 1/10th”, see performance chart. Very good overall with only very slight losses to lacquer finish. The travel case sound, retaining its button with leather over.

Comments: In all respects a very fine instrument, clearly with minimal handling – almost a time warp and certainly collectable.
