Rotating bezel and altitude ring calibrated 0–20,000 ft, the inner scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 15–31. Blued steel pointer set beneath a fine bevelled glass. The first quality lacquered brass movement driven by a 1¼” capsule, the movement of conventional coil spring pattern with bimetallic compensation to extension. Low barrel form case with central rib, suspension ring with pillar, compensation port to verso.
The matching compass having Singer’s Patent pattern mother of pearl floating card marked with cardinals and intercardinals, jewelled suspension, the lower part signed by the maker “Negretti & Zambra, London” and “Singer’s Patent.” Suspension ring set to post with integral compass lock.
The thermometer set to an ivory register with both Celsius and Fahrenheit scales with ranges -10 to 40 degrees and 20 to 110 degress respectively.
The whole contained within its original leather over wood, green velvet and silk lined case, snap closure on a button release.
The pocket barometer and compass have been cleaned and serviced and retain virtually all original finish. The barometer dial with some minor marks, the case retaining virtually all its original finish. The leather over timber travel case in exceptional condition having only minor marks to the leather exterior, the case interior retaining virtually all its original colour and vibrancy.
The pocket barometer has good sensitivity and function, the compass finds north easily, with the lock operating correctly. The thermometer thread unbroken, working and generally in good condition.
Increasingly hard to find in good condition, examples by this maker are now rare. Well presented for display, this is undoubtedly a very collectable item.
