A scarce silver-mounted pocket forecaster by Negretti & Zambra, hallmarked for London, 1924

Negretti & Zambra Silver Pocket Forecaster c1924 - SOLD

Pocket forecaster of celluloid construction, the face with tri-concentric discs: the base with directions of wind and signed by the maker “Negretti & Zambra, London,” the mid disc with barometric scale in inches of mercury, the upper disc marked with maker’s logogram and “Pat. No. 6276/15,” (1915) and set with three viewing windows revealing a forecast code for steady, rising or falling pressure, the verso marked with 26 weather predictions. The code obtained from the upper disc may then be translated on the verso to a predicted weather forecast. Silver mount to circumference with assay marks for London and 1924.

The forecaster with fine surface marks, some discolouration, small section of the outer disc lacking, the silver mount clean with slight wear. The leather case with good colour, retaining much original high-gloss finish, the instruction sheet with slight tears, creases and discolouration. The retail case with losses generally to finish; the corners, form and structure sound.
