Antique French Inclinometer by Develay, Mid to Later 19th Century – SOLD
Antique inclinometer having 4″ card dial with opposing scales executed in black (clockwise rotation) and red (anticlockwise rotation), calibrated from 0 to 45 degrees at full scale deflection. The dial upper portion marked “C. Develay, Ingenieur – Constructeur, Brevete S.G.D.G” the lower marked “20, Rue Vieille du Temple 20, Paris.” Blued steel pointer, gilt brass tell tale, set beneath a flat pattern glass. Drum form case with integral space frame stand of bell form, the inner end struck with serial no.”D. 162,” ground bearing surface. The verso with arrestor switch marked “F” (fermé) and “O” (ouvert). Contained within its original faux leather over timber mauve velvet lined case, twin hook closure.
An unusual instrument, this inclinometer designed almost certainly for the construction industry, the index affording a reference for checking subsidence or structural movement.
