Image of Pocket Anemometer by Schaeffer & Budenberg No 6678 c1915Pocket anemometer having silvered die struck dial calibrated in feet with a range from 0 – 100 having stations at ten and divided to two, subsidiary dial to 1000 with stations at 100. Blued steel pointers and lower part marked serial “No 6788,” bevelled glass mounted in a plated bezel. The mechanism supported to the front on three radial pillars set at 120 degrees attached to the casing. Eight-bladed spade form impeller, the rear bearing supported at the centre of an isotoxal frame.

Double half hunter nickel-plated brass case with crown release, post and suspension ring. Rear lid marked with maker’s name: “Schaeffer & Budenberg Ltd, Manchester.”

Very rarely found, this is a very good example of the work of Schaeffer & Budenberg, makers in existence under this name from 1850–1918. One other such example is available on this site and a similar one by Short & Mason has been seen.

Serviced and in very good working order, spinning freely, both pointers on the dial recording correctly. The case showing signs of wear and minor abrasions, the lid glass replaced.

Certainly collectable.
