A good nickel plated “Forecaster” aneroid barometer suited to auto dashboard mounting by Negretti & Zambra c1935
Aneroid barometer having 2¼” ‘white’ silvered and die struck dial, the barometric scale calibrated from 28 – 31 inches of mercury divided down to 1/20th, the upper part marked “Change,” “Rain” and “Fair” to centre, the lower part annotated “Forecaster” and signed by the maker “Negretti & Zambra, London.” Japanned pointer, low dome bevelled glass with index positioned from engine turned rotating bezel.
Standard Vidie pattern movement driven from a single 1¼” nickel alloy capsule tensioned on a C spring, and marked “11/35.” All contained within a low drum form case, the circumference with fine thread and corresponding fixing ring, the verso with calibration port.
Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions, see performance chart from dynamic test. The movement working well with easily acceptable accuracy across the range with maximum recorded error of + 0.15” at 31” Hg.
Crisp overall, the dial with some ageing, the case with minor marks, retaining virtually all its original plating. Suited to mounting on a dash board no thicker than 8mm.
Comments: A very attractive Art Deco style aneroid instrument and would be ideal for many classic cars of the era.
