Bourdon barometer having 6¼” reverse transfer printed bevelled glass dial, standard meteorological terms to the periphery, the barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 28 – 31, stations on the inch and divided to 1/10ths, blued steel pointer, gilt index. Conventional later pattern movement benefitting from adjustable links. Fine fan shaped rack, the beam chassis signed with intertwined Jules Richard “JR” logogram and struck with the serial no. “15178.” Concave silvered reflector.

All contained within a scalloped case, post with suspension ring, calibration port to verso., blued screws and interrupter.

Condition: The subject of a complete re-build and calibration under laboratory conditions. A good instrument, obvious wear to outer scalloped case with traces of original finish, minor abrasions, patches of oxidation and some deeper abrasions to verso. The glass dial in good order but with original flaws to the glass. The reverse printing clear and legible. Some distortion to bezel.

Comments: This barometer has a very original feel to it, presented in its original but conserved condition. Now very hard to find in this sort of condition, these instruments have always been much sought after by collectors and connoisseurs alike. Performance is acceptable over the normal barometric range, sensitivity is much in line with other similar instruments of good condition.

A collectors piece, without doubt.
