A good larger size easel standing black dial aneroid desk pocket barometer by Callaghan & Co, London c1910


Pocket barometer having 2¼” enamel black dial calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 27½ – 31”, divided to 1/100th”. The inner part with standard meteorological terms, the upper part signed by the maker “Callaghan & Co,” the lower with business address “23a New Bond Street, corner Conduit St, London.” Gilt brass pointer, heavy bevelled glass, silvered crown operated reflector ring with integral index. Standard 1¼” single capsule driven movement tensioned on a C spring.

Semi barrel form case with circumferential lined detail. Extension post, suspension ring and crown. The opening verso actuated from the crown, automatically extending easel stand.

All contained within its original brown leather over timber, green silk and velvet lined, clamshell case, the lid silk with traces of gold block Callaghan logogram. Snap closure on a button release.

Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation and calibration, see performance chart. The dial with minor flaw to enamel at 12 o’clock periphery, very minor dial marks only visible in critical light, the glass original and chip free, the lacquered brass case retaining a good proportion of original finish, easel stand witness marks to inside of verso, verso outside with signs of wear.
The leather case sound and with good colour, hinge and snap closure working well. The fabric interior with losses, some fading and signs of wear, the lid silk with some perishing.
