Antique Pocket Barometer by Dollond No 7266 c1909 – SOLD
Pocket barometer having 1¾” silvered dial, calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 23 – 31″ and with an outer altimetric scale from 0-8,000 feet, and marked with standard meteorological terms, “Rain, Change, Fair,” the lower portion signed by the maker, “Dollond, London” and serial “No 7266.” Blued steel pointer, set under bevelled glass contained within rotating bezel with fine index.
Conventional good quality single capsule movement, marked “27/10/09,” barrel form oxidised brass case, compensation port to rear set at 8 o’clock. Suspension loop and pinned bow. Contained within its original, very fine oxblood Moroccan leather over wood, imperial purple silk and velvet lined case, with gold blocked maker’s cartouche, “Dollond, London” to inside lid, snap closure on a button release.
A quality item in good condition, the brass case retaining most of its oxidised finish, the verso with some wear, the dial in very good condition. The leather case retaining much of its original high gloss finish, the leather over the button missing. The lid silk and lower case velvet with vibrant colour.
The instrument serviced and inspected, on test it shows good sensitivity and transition.
A good original pocket barometer.
