An interesting and very scarce Georgian mahogany cased folding inclinometer rule c1775
Inclinometer rule having 12” mahogany surround with high quality central lay-flat brass hinge, the outer bottom edge marked in inches from 1” – 12”. The inner right hand side having inset brass inclinometer with swinging hand with a scale displaying 90° – 0° – 90°, the left hand side cut out to accommodate the inclinometer hand when closed. Twin brass folding sights to upper corners.
Condition: In very good antique condition, the hinge sound and opening completely flat, the inclinometer hand swinging freely.
Comments: A scarce instrument – we’ve not seen another such example, though we have a similar inclinometer included within a mahogany cased compass on this website (see Braham Compass Clinometer), used for measuring angles and elevation.
Very well made and in excellent original condition, one for the collector of Georgian surveying instruments and rules.
