Short & Mason, prolific in the making of barographs, produced amongst the very best domestic instruments, and this particular model benefits enormously from the swinging gate recording arms, a system that ensured consistent nib setting across the curvature of the drum. The system also allowed for any run-out in the rotational axis of the drum. This characteristic, allied with the provision of a Gluck-made drum, all speak for a superior quality instrument.

A very good working instrument showing good sensitivity. For the collector and user alike.
