Marine Barometer by Casella c1900 – SOLD
Marine barometer having 6” printed card over brass dial, the upper portion with barometric scale from 28–31 inches of mercury, meteorological headings, “Wet or More Wind,” “Fall for S.Wly. SE. SW.,” “Rise for N.Ely. NW. NE.,” “Dry or Less Wind,” the lower, signed by the maker “L. Casella, Maker to The Admiralty & Ordnance, London.” Semi-circular mercurial thermometer with upper Centigrade scale with a range from 10–60 degrees, the lower Fahrenheit scale with a range from 10–140 degrees, fine blued-steel pointer with gilt brass telltale. Setting knob set to bevelled glass, heavy brass bezel and front to case, three radially-mounted bulkhead fixing points. Calibration port set to verso at 3 o’clock.
Examples of this type of instrument by Casella are rare. Known for the very best quality instruments, Casella officially supplied many instruments to the Admiralty and Ordnance, testament to their consistently high standards in engineering and technology.
With good sensitivity and stepless progression, this marine barometer is indeed a very fine instrument, serviced and conserved.
