Short & Mason Motor Aneroid Barometer Altimeter Performance Chart

A very good scarce chrome brass motor aneroid barometer and altimeter by Short & Mason c1915

Motor aneroid having 2⅜” stepped, silvered and japanned die struck dial, the outer bezel driven altitude scale calibrated in feet with a range from 0 – 4,000ft divided down to 50ft, marked “Ascent” in white, “Descent” in red, the inner part calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 28” – 31” divided down to 1/10”, standard meteorological terms, the lower part signed by the maker, “Short & Mason Ltd, London.” Blued steel pointer, white accented tip, bevelled glass.

Standard Vidie pattern movement with corrosion resistant coating driven from a single flux welded nickel alloy 1” capsule tensioned on a C spring. All contained within a chrome plated drum form case, flare to bezel, three point mounting flange, calibration port to verso.

Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions, see performance chart from dynamic test. The movement working exceptionally well across the range with easily acceptable levels of accuracy. The outer altitude ring with some signs of ageing, the glass with small scratch. The outer case retaining much original chrome plated finish, the bezel rotating smoothly.

Comments: The classic motor aneroid, fitted as standard to some vehicles with many retro fitted to others. Few of these instruments survive today, this one easily good enough to compliment any classic car restoration.
