An extremely unusual dashboard mounted bi-metallic type analogue thermometer by Negretti & Zambra no. 770 c1920
Automobile dashboard thermometer having 2⅜” silvered and die struck dial calibrated in both degrees Centigrade and Fahrenheit with corresponding ranges -20° to 60°, divided to 2°, and 0° – 140°, divided to 1°. The upper part marked “Metallic Thermometer,” the lower part signed by the maker, “Negretti & Zambra, London” with serial number “770.” The twin scales marked “Fahrenheit” and “Centigrade.” Bezel operated index, japanned brass pointer, bevelled glass.
Presented within a flanged drum form case with three fixing points, peripheral ventilation points.
Condition: The case restored, the dial remaining original, the movement working well responding to temperature change.
Comments: This is the first such metallic thermometer dashboard companion for automobile aneroid barometers that we have seen. A very unusual item.
