A fine leather cased silver pedometer retailed by Negretti & Zambra with very rare original setting turn screw c1894
Silver pedometer having 1½” silvered and die struck dial, the outer crown operated scale calibrated in miles with a range from 0 – 12 and divided down to 1/8, the centre marked “Negretti & Zambra, London.” Blued steel pointer under bevelled low dome crystal.
Gilt brass and blued steel spring suspended lever arm mechanism with “F” (fast) and “S” (slow) setting spindle, stamped with a star, usually seen on Swiss movements as a mark of quality.
The engine turned silver back cover with vacant cartouche, hall marked to inside for London, RJO (Richard James Oliver), and date letter T for 1894. Suspension post and bow.
All presented within its original leather over timber, blue silk and velvet lined presentation case, inside lid silk carrying retailers details “Negretti & Zambra, London” with crown over in gold block. Original miniature boxwood and steel turn screw. Swinging catch security.
Condition: Generally fine, the dial with a very minor mark (not easily seen), the silver case sharp and clean with good colour, the mechanism working well. The presentation case with some external wear though retaining a good proportion of its original colour, the leather covering intact and in good condition. The internal fabric with much vibrancy and colour.
Comments: A really lovely piece, clearly very little used or handled, exceptional with its case and original setting turn screw.
