A good scarce 8-day motor dashboard clock by Smith & Sons (Motor Accessories) Ltd, c1925
Motor dashboard clock having 3“ anodised die struck dial, with Arabic numbers and blued Breguet ‘moon’ hands. The lower part with Smiths registered trademark logogram. Heavy bevelled glass, heavy nickel plated brass bezel.
The clock has an 8-day movement, wound by the front bezel, the whole presented within a nickel-plated drum form case, hand setting knob to bottom, the verso with serial no. “84397” and timing regulator.
Condition: The clock ticks, but then stops, so does requires servicing. The dial is in very good crisp condition, the hands retaining most of their original blued finish. The glass with a couple of very minor scratches, otherwise clear. The bezel showing traces of its original plated finish, the case retaining most of its plating but with marks from previous dashboard mounting.
Comments: Smiths bezel-wound dashboard clocks were found in the finest pre-WW2 vehicles, and this is possibly from a Bentley or Rolls Royce. Easily good enough for the finest classic car restoration.
NB: We are also have available a Smiths motor aneroid from the same period and in an almost identical pattern case. For more information, click HERE and see image of both instruments below.
