Pocket barometer altimeter having 1¾” silvered and struck concentric scale dial, the outer altitude ring calibrated from 0–10,000ft, the inner scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 21–31, the inner dial annotated with standard meteorological terms, “Rain,” “Change” and “Fair,” and “Compensated,” the lower portion marked “Negretti & Zambra, London,” serial no. “3989” and carrying the maker’s “N&Z” logogram. Blued steel pointer set beneath bevelled glass, maintained within a rotating bezel supporting the altitude ring.
High quality Negretti & Zambra conventional pattern movement with bimetallic compensation driven by a single 1¼” capsule, dated “III X II.” Housed within a gilt brass drum form case having suspension pillar and pinned bow, the verso with compensation adjustment port and screw to 8 o’clock. The whole contained within its claret grained leather over wood emerald green velvet and green silk lined case, snap closure on a button release.
The gold-plated brass case retaining virtually all its original finish with just slight losses to bow and very light marks. The carry case in good condition, the interior velvet bright, the lid silk faded, the leather over the button replaced.
This is a very good quality pocket barometer from a premier maker, with the added attraction of the gold-plated finish. Serviced and calibrated, it works well and responds with good sensitivity.
A super pocket barometer altimeter for the collector or as a gift.
