Antique Singer’s Patent compass by Francis Barker having 2¼” floating dry card with Singer’s Patent rose, showing lyre trademark and serial no. “19938,” further marked with cardinals and inter cardinals. The card verso of typical Barker form, having reused materials and balanced with sealing wax. Contained within a drum-form case with push-on lid, flat glass with sprung retainer.
A good example of an unusually large diameter compass, surviving in much above average and original condition. Retaining most original lacquer to case, minor losses to the card. The compass swings nicely, easily finding north.
Increasingly hard to find in this size, this Singer’s Patent compass is a collector’s piece.
