Fine blued-steel pointer, set beneath bevelled glass with centre-mounted gilt brass index. Conventional single 2½” capsule-driven, first quality movement constructed in brass and set on a steel chassis. “C” spring and bi-metallic compensation. Contained within a formed and spun case having top-mounted suspension ring and pillar, the verso with compensation port set at 3 o’clock. Contained in its original lacquered light oak and blue velvet lined desk case with glazed viewing port, working lock and key.
The case retaining some of its original gilt finish, with light wear and patination, the dial with some localised areas of oxidation. The movement sensitive with good progression. Serviced, calibrated and conserved. The oak case in good original condition with good colour and patina, the lining vibrant.
An early production aneroid barometer by this world-renowned London maker, this Negretti & Zambra barometer is a rare instrument with wonderful aesthetics and functionality. Analysis in the vacuum chamber shows the movement to be working well showing linear progression through the pressure range.
These instruments which represented the best of making in their time are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Very much a collector’s piece in crisp original condition.
