Later 19th Century Travelling Thermometer by Hicks - RESERVED


Image of Hicks Travelling ThermometerTravelling thermometer having mercury tube set on an ivory register calibrated in degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit with ranges from -10 – 45 and 20 – 110 degrees respectively, further annotated “Freezing” and “Blood Heat.” The top signed by the maker “J. Hicks, Maker, London.” Silk cord suspension.

Contained within its original imperial purple velvet and blue silk lined grained oxblood leather over timber case. Snap closure on button release, suspension ring to top.

The thermometer thread unbroken, the register with good colour and clearly marked calibrations, the case lid silk replaced, the original velvet with good colour. The leather covering with some wear and minor abrasions.

A lovely instrument, now very hard to find, surviving in good collectable condition.
