15″ lacquered brass parallel rolling rule, heavy construction milled principally in two pieces, scalloped end bearing carriers, diametrically opposed gripping knobs, bevelled long edges. The upper face signed by the maker “T. Cooke & Sons, London & York.”
Contained within its original finger-jointed mahogany case with felt-faced packing blocks, swinging catches, brass hinges.
Of the many instruments of this type that we have seen, this is one of the better ones – top maker, nicely nineteenth century, lovely original condition and cased. Some marks and light abrasions to the case, one pin “keeper” replaced. The instrument with losses to lacquered finish, some age patination. A collector’s piece.
