Aneroid Barometer Altimeter by Naudet Retailed by Rost c1875
Antique aneroid barometer having 4¼” silvered and engraved dial, the outer rotating scale calibrated in metres with a range from 0-2600m, the inner scale calibrated in centimetres of mercury with a range from 57–78, the upper dial marked “Holesteric Barometer” with “PHNB” logo, and “Compensiert,” the lower with retailer’s details, “Rudolf & August Rost, Wien.” Blued steel pointer, all set beneath bevelled glass retained in a knurled rotating bezel.
Classic finely engineered early Naudet lacquered brass and japanned steel movement driven from a deep 2½” capsule. The whole contained within a drum form lacquered brass case, extension post and suspension ring, calibration port to verso.
A particularly fine instrument with excellent aesthetic qualities. Designed for those travelling, such instruments by this maker are far less common than one might assume.
The brass case retaining almost all its original lacquered finish with some light abrasions and points of oxidation, the dial crisp and clean with slight age cast, the altimetric scale with losses. The glass with minor scratches.
Cleaned, serviced and conserved, this is a really excellent instrument with stepless progression and very good sensitivity. Presented here in full working order.
