A very good attractive Art Deco walnut wall barometer no. R/2311 by Negretti & Zambra, London c1925
Aneroid barometer having 6½” silvered and die struck dial with barometric scale from 28” – 31” Hg divided to 1/100th, the inner part with standard meteorological terms, the upper marked “Compensated”, the lower signed by the maker “Negretti & Zambra, London”, the “N&Z” logogram and serial no. R/2311. Blued steel pointer, gilt index below a flat bevelled glass set in a polished oxidised brass bezel. The standard movement driven from a 2” single capsule tensioned on a C spring.
The whole mounted within a quarter cut, diamond matched walnut veneer case with ebony stringing. The verso with calibration port and hanging plate.
Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions, see performance chart from dynamic test. The movement working well with easily acceptable accuracy for domestic purposes.
The dial with some losses though clean and crisp, the glass unchipped with no visible scratches, the bezel retaining virtually all its original oxidised finish with good colour. The walnut veneered case retaining a very good proportion of its original French polish.
Comments: A really very attractive piece with lighter tones fitting well with modern décor, this model is quite scarce, combining excellent aesthetics with function.
