Aitchison Hunter Cased Pocket Barometer Performance Chart

A very good unusual full hunter oxidised brass cased aneroid pocket barometer altimeter with thermometer by Francis Barker for Aitchison London c1910

Pocket barometer having 1½” silvered and die struck stepped dial, the outer crown driven altitude ring calibrated in feet with a range from 0 – 8,000ft divided down to 50ft, inner barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 23” – 31” divided to 1/20” and marked “Inches,” inner and inset marked with standard meteorological terms, semi circular thermometer with register calibrated in degrees Fahrenheit with a range from -10° to 150° divided to 2°.

Conventional Vidie pattern movement driven from a single 1” nickel alloy capsule tensioned on a C spring, all contained within a crown opening full hunter case, calibration port to verso.

Presented in its original oxblood leather over timber, green silk and velvet lined case, snap closure on a button release.

Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions, see performance chart from dynamic test. The movement working very acceptably with full and free registration.

Very good to fine overall, the dial with slight ageing and minor light oxidation at bottom, the oxidised case retaining much original lacquered finish, the crown activated altitude scale moving freely, and case release and lock up working perfectly. The travel case structurally sound, the leather covering with minor signs of wear, the fabric interior bright and vibrant, the catch and hinge working perfectly.

Comments: One for the collector, rarely seen in this format and certainly not in this condition.
