The upper inset with standard meteorological terms, the lower with semi-circular thermometer, the register calibrated in degrees Fahrenheit with a range from 10° – 120°. Fine blued steel pointer under bevelled glass.
Conventional Vidie pattern movement driven from a single 1” nickel alloy capsule tensioned on a C spring. All contained within a semi barrel form case with circumferential rib. Pendant, bow and calibration port to verso. Presented in its correct clamshell oxblood leather over timber, cream silk and blue velvet lined case.
Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions. The barometer working exceptionally well, accurate to within 1/10th” across the scale, the thermometer reading accurately at 70°F. The dial bright, clean and vibrant with good definition, the bright plated case with minor marks and very light abrasions only, retaining most original finish.
The travel case structurally sound with good external colour, the snap closure working positively. The fabric interior bright and vibrant, the cream lid silk with some age staining.
Comments: Bright nickel plate sets this apart from the mainstream, and examples are infrequently found. This particularly early example is in really crisp overall condition and worthy of any collection.
