Image of Pocket Barometer by John Browning, LondonPocket barometer having 1¾” silvered and struck twin scale dial, the outer altitude scale with a range from 0 – 10,000ft, the inner calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 21 – 31, the upper portion marked “Compensated,” the lower signed by the maker “John Browning, London.” Fine blued steel pointer set beneath a bevelled glass maintained within a rotating bezel with associated altitude scale. Conventional compensated 1¼” capsule-driven movement all within a barrel-form case with central rib, and with engine turned end rings. The verso with compensation port and screw at 5 o’clock.

The whole contained within an oxblood grained leather over wood case having green silk and velvet lining, snap closure on a button release.

The barometer case retaining a good proportion of its original lacquered finish, some small losses, light scratches and abrasions to rear, the glass with very light abrasions, the dial bright and vibrant, the bezel freely rotating. The leather case sound with good colour, the button with original leather covering intact, the interior fabrics remain bright and clean.

The instrument with good sensitivity and progression. Serviced and calibrated. A fine instrument by a scarce maker in good crisp condition overall.
