Pocket Mountain Barometer Altimeter by Chadburn c1895 – SOLD
Pocket barometer with finely engraved and silvered 1¾” dial having twin scales 1-8000 feet and 23-31 inches of mercury. The upper portion of the dial annotated “Rain,” “Change,” “Fair” and “Compensated,” lower portion signed “Chadburn’s Ltd, 47 Castle Street, Liverpool.” Fine blued-steel pointer, bevelled crystal in rotating bezel.
Good quality conventional movement with offset cock and bimetallic temperature compensation raised on a brass chassis. Suspension ring, compensation screw to rear set at 4 o’clock. Contained in its original, green, silk- and velvet-lined red Moroccan leather case.
Inspected, serviced and in good working order, both barometer and case in extremely fine condition, this is a very handsome pocket barometer.
Chadburn’s Ltd is recorded in Banfield, Edwin, Barometer Makers and Retailers, 1660-1900 as working from 47 Castle Street, Liverpool from 1875 onwards.
