Negretti & Zambra Pocket Barometer No 12536 Performance Chart

A good aneroid pocket barometer altimeter by Negretti & Zambra No 12536 c1932

Pocket barometer having 1¾” silvered and die struck dial, the outer bezel-operated altitude ring calibrated in feet with a range from 0 to 8,000ft and divided down to 100ft, the inner barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 23” to 31” divided down to 1/10th”, basic meteorological terms, the lower part signed by the maker “Negretti & Zambra, London” with serial no. “12356.” Blued steel pointer, bevelled glass.

The conventional Vidie pattern C spring movement driven from a single 1” capsule, and dated “11 32” (Nov 1932), the underside of the chassis marked “8000” (8,000ft). All contained within a ribbed semi drum-form case, case extension and suspension bow, calibration port to verso.

Presented with its correct oxblood and black leather over timber, green silk and velvet lined case, snap closure on a button release.

Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions, the movement showing acceptable accuracy across the standard barometric range with good accuracy down to 24” (6,000ft). Sensitive with good progression.

The dial very clean and bright with little sign of ageing, the glass remaining original with very small chip at extreme edge. The brass case retaining virtually all its original lacquered finish, some very small points of discolouration, bow and post with wear and patination.

The leather travel case repaired at the button release, with a small piece of the structure and the button replaced and new leather covering to local area.

Comments: Just a nice example of an earlier C20th pocket barometer altimeter in very original condition, save for comments above.

An ideal gift, and a collector’s item.
