A very good celluloid pocket forecaster disc complete with instruction sheet and rare red leather pouch by Negretti & Zambra c1930
Pocket forecaster having tri-centric disc: the outer 2⅛” diameter disc with wind setting points and signed “Negretti & Zambra, London,” the verso with alpha coded prognostications; the middle 1⅝” diameter disc with barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury, noted that readings are as for a barometer set at sea level, and wind setting indicator; the uppermost inner 1¼” diameter disc with barometer setting arrow, and three small apertures, at 9 o’clock for falling pressure, at 6 o’clock for steady pressure, and at 3 o’ clock for rising pressure, further marked with Negretti & Zambra logogram and “Pat.No 6276/15.”
Fold out instruction sheet printed on paper. All contained within its original red leather pouch, the front signed by the maker “Negretti & Zambra” in gold.
Condition: Crisp and complete, all three discs, which very often are seized, rotating freely.
Comments: Of the known forecasters of this pattern, those retailed in red leather cases are the hardest to find and certainly the most attractive. Very much a collector’s item.
