A good scarce WW2 United States Naval Issue Ships Barometer No 18516 by Taylor Instruments, N.Y., USA c1943

Marine barometer having 4½” printed celluloid dial calibrated in inches of Hg with a range from 28” – 31” divided down to 1/50th, the upper part marked “Pressure, Inches of Mercury, Compensated,” the lower part “U.S. Navy, Bu. Ships N 18516” and dated “1943.” The lower part further marked “Taylor Instrument Companies, Rochester N.Y., U.S.A.” Japanned pointer, gilded centre-mounted bar index, plexi-glass.

Conventional though developed Vidie pattern movement driven from a single flux welded capsule tensioned on a C spring. All contained within a bakelite case with threaded bezel, verso with tri mounting points to flange, shuttered calibration port. Yellow stores label to side marked “No 876.”

Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions, see performance chart from dynamic test. The movement working exceptionally well.

Generally in very good condition, the dial without cracks or flaws, the case in similar condition, minor marks and abrasions.

Comments: An interesting war time bulkhead barometer for the US Navy Bureau of Ships that must be considered scarce, in much above average condition. A collector’s piece.
