Large wall barometer having 10″ porcelain transfer and hand-decorated dial, the outer part with standard meteorological red highlighted terms, the barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 26″ – 21″, divided to 1/20th”, the inner part with weather prognostications, marked “Robinson & Co, The Square, Shrewsbury.” Bold blued steel stylised pointer, complimentary bright brass index with adjustment knob, all set beneath a heavy bevelled glass set in a lacquered pressed bezel.

Conventional good quality movement driven from a 2⅞” single capsule tensioned on a C spring. The whole mounted within a solid oak case with rope twist design to extremity. The verso with original hanging plate, calibration port.

Condition: The subject of an extensive overhaul and calibration under laboratory conditions. The movement displaying excellent accuracy with dispersion across the scale of less than 1/10th”, sensitive with good progression, see performance chart. The dial with minor damage at extreme edge not visible when assembled, otherwise clean crisp and vibrant, the brass bezel with some oxidation, minor dent at 6 o’clock, the glass essentially damage-free, the index with oxidation to base, the pointer with small point of oxidation at point. The oak case clean and with good colour, some marks, ageing, paint residues to verso.

Comments: Always popular, these are impressive instruments, being about twice the size of those usually encountered. The dials are most attractive and fit well into more or less any living space particularly country house kitchens!

Collectable in this condition.
