Antique Pocket Barometer Altimeter by Negretti & Zambra for Aitchison c1915 – SOLD
Pocket barometer having 1½” die struck and silvered dial with barometric range 21 – 31 inches of mercury, outer rotating altitude ring with a range from 0 – 10,000ft, the upper dial with standard meteorological terms “Rain,” “Change,” “Fair,” the lower portion with retailer’s name “Aitchinson & Co, Opticians to H.M. Govt., London & Provinces,” blued steel pointer, set below a low iron bevelled glass. Conventional 1“ single capsule driven movement, low barrel form case with compensation port to verso set at 7 o’clock, case extension with suspension loop.
The whole contained within its original leather over wood, green velvet and silk lined case, the lid with gold block “Trade Mark,” ‘owl’ logo, and annotated “Aitchinson & Co, Opticians to H.M. Govt., London & Leeds,” snap closure on a button release.
In all, a very fine example of a good quality instrument, completely original in all respects. The dial with very slight signs of ageing, minor losses to verso, the leather case with minor wear and losses. Serviced and calibrated, very much for the collector.
