Medals and Awards for Victorian Model Horizontal Live Steam Engine, c1900
John Campbell, an engineer in the Scottish shipbuilding industry, spent three years constructing this model steam engine. It is believed he cast many of the main components including the fly-wheel during his time working for William Arrol & Co at the Parkhead forge in Glasgow, the remainder of the engine being handmade by him, including the mahogany base, and mahogany and glass display case.
John Campbell exhibited his engine at a number of important Scottish industrial exhibitions in the early 20th century, gaining six prestigious awards for his work.
