Schweppes Barometer Performance Chart

A scarce Edwardian Schweppes advertising aneroid barometer by Short & Mason c1905

Aneroid barometer having 4¾” illuminated ceramic dial, the outer part with standard meteorological terms, the semi-circular barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 28” – 31” divided down to 1/50th, the centre decorated “Schweppes, Purveyors To The King,” the lower part with thermometer, the register calibrated in Fahrenheit with a range from 20° – 120°. Blued and illuminated steel pointer, bevelled plexiglass set in a lacquered brass bezel.

Standard Vidie pattern movement driven from a single 2¾” nickel alloy capsule tensioned on a C spring. Presented in a decorated circular rope pattern mahogany case.

Condition: The subject of a full service, conservation, and calibration under laboratory conditions, see performance chart from dynamic test, the movement working well with good sensitivity across the range 28” – 31”.

The dial damage free, clear and crisp, some restoration to timber case.

Comments: These antique advertising barometers are really hard to find, visually attractive and functional, and a great addition to your kitchen – or private bar! Unsigned, the movement probably by Short & Mason.
