Sestrel Ships Clock by Elliott for Henry Browne No 16060 c1930 – SOLD
Ship’s clock having 8″ enamel dial with roman chapter ring, the upper portion with subsidiary dial for seconds and regulation lever, the lower portion bearing the retailer “Henry Browne & Son Ltd, Barking & London” and “Sestrel Trade Mark,” port for winding square. Blued steel hour, minute and second hands beneath heavy bevelled glass maintained within hinged swing-open brass bezel. Very good movement with platform escapement signed “Elliott, London,” serial no. “16060″ and marked “Sestrel, Sole Marine Distributors, H.B. & S. Ltd, Barking.” Brass drum form case with bulkhead fixing flange. Contemporary key.
An aesthetically attractive high quality instrument, particularly so since the movement is by Elliott, recognised as preeminent in the manufacture of top quality clock movements. This is a scarce example as most Sestrel clocks were made for Henry Browne by Smiths.
